We couldn’t be prouder of this achievement. When we first opened in September 2021, we had a dream of building a community of music students who would learn to collaborate and support one another. We want to thank our students and parents for being a part of this dream, for seeing the joy that music brings out in us and for believing in us to fulfill this dream. 

Why are our students so passionate about music? What makes lessons with us different than with other music schools? How are our teacher’s different from any other you might find?

Our philosophy is that music students should be taught to love music first and foremost. Our students come to their lessons with a smile on their faces, and they leave with an even bigger smile. Our students are taught that sharing their love of music with others is of the utmost importance, through collaboration with other students, and through regular opportunities to perform, whether at Open Air Dunlop, The Santa Claus Parade, our biannual Five Points Theatre concerts, Summer park concert series shows around town, or any other opportunity that might present itself to our studio. Our teachers and students all love music in a way that is obvious to anyone who spends a minute inside our studio. 

We are still a relatively new studio, with just over 2 years in business. We aren’t perfect, to be sure we make our fair share of mistakes, and our students and parents would attest to that. But, we always make it right, and our students and parents know that our hearts are always in the right place. Our greatest struggle as we have grown so quickly, especially this past year, is finding enough staff to meet the incredible demand. 

Thankfully, we’ve been very lucky in that regard. Three incredible teachers, Alondra, Kenny and Sam, have recently joined our staff, with myself, the two Nates (now affectionately nicknamed “Nate Squared”) Adam and Sonny rounding out an incredibly diverse and talented team of teachers. We feel confident that this lineup cannot be beat for talent, and most importantly, passion.

Nathaniel Mink-Rice joined our staff on Day 1. It was easy for us to make Nate an immediate offer. His infectious smile, his calm and patient demeanour, and most of all, his obvious love of music made him a perfect fit for what we were hoping to build. He is gracious, he is kind, he is humble and he is above all an incredibly positive energy at our studio. He is so deserving of this award. His students’ parents will tell you that their kids feel more confident, happier, more engaged, and are absolutely in love with music. Whether it’s guitar, vocals, bass, or ukulele, Nathaniel reaches his students in a way that we all at Modern Music Studio aspire to. I could go on, but for now, I will simply say, thank you to all our amazing Modern Music studio family. You share in these victories. We are very honoured and humbled by your support. 

We endeavour to continue to teach music in a way that brings joy, that builds students up, and that encourages students to come together with others to share in their love of music.
